A popular cleric and senior pastor of Divine Grace of Glory Church International Inc Edo State, Pastor Peter Obaseki yesterday attributed the increasing moral and social decays among members of the society to activities of some religious leaders who
hide behind the altar of God to perpetrate heinous crimes. He said most places of worship have suddenly been turned into den of rituals, herbalists, occultists, adulterers and other vices by supposed men of God who rather than pursue their vision and mission, have resorted to entertainment, storytelling and other gimmicks in the name of worship and service in God’s vineyard.
Pastor Obaseki told newsmen in Benin, the Edo state capital, that there is an urgent need for Nigerians irrespective of religion, tribe and social leanings to embark on fervent prayers for the All Progressives Congress (APC) led administration of President Muhammadu Buhari in its total overhaul and transformation programme aimed at emancipating the country from her woes.
He commended President Buhari in his anti-corruption stance which he said would help instill discipline, sincerity, courage and commitment amongst workers appointed and elected individuals in various sectors of the economy as well as make the country to have new projection and direction for growth and development.
According to him,
“It is because many of us men of God are not anointed, many of us are storytellers, many of us are pastors of course ambitious; many of us are reverends we have many titles but the required anointing is not there and that is why in so many ministries today you have tussle for power."
“That is what many of us are after, I want to be in this position, I must ride this car; I must do this, the real thing is neglected and how many men of God have time for prayers? It is what you have that you transmit to your followers. So many of us pastors are Agberos, secret cult members; we have so many pastors, so many ministries, all the churches they are no church. We have so many native doctors, herbalists, witch doctors in the altar and so many of us need deliverance.”
The cleric said,
“We need God to stand for the leaders and convince the hearts of their followers to be able to implement their plans and it works, once it produce result it will affect positively the least person in this country.
“I see corruption as a virus that can destroy when you have virus in your system it destroys the system on a gradual process until there is anti-virus, so anti-corruption measure being taken now by government is a good one.”
