David Oyedepo: 'No prayer or fasting can substitute quality education’



Nigeria needs to invest aggressively in the education sector because of its importance for rapid development, says the Chancellor,Covenant University, Ota, Dr David Oyedepo.

Speaking at the 10th convocation of the university for the award of first and higher degrees for the 2014/2015 session, Oyedepo said education should come first.
“No nation will ever rise above its investment for quality education as it is not just a funfare of degrees, but a continuous commitment to learning," he said.
"A qualitative educated society will provide quality and productive approach in tackling the immediate needs of the society.
“Education remains a fundamental and veritable tool for nation building and accelerated transformation."
Oyedepo, who is the founder of Living Faith Church World Wide, also known as Winners Chapel, owners of Covenant University, stated that even prayers cannot substitute for qualitative education.
“No prayer or fasting can substitute knowledge. We need life-transforming education; one that speaks and creates," he stated.
“Even in spiritual matters, we need quality education to forge ahead for enlightenment and illumination."
Oyedepo prayed for the graduating students and urged them to contribute to national development.
One hundred and four of the graduates had first class honours.
The university was named the number one university in Nigeria and West Africa as well as the 15th best university in Africa in the 2015 Webometrics Rankings of Universities.
It was ranked 2nd in Nigeria in 2014.
