On the cold South African winter night of the 19th June 2015, the streets of Sandton, Johannesburg were filled by over 200 of the country's top CEOs , who stepped away from the comfort of their own homes to participate in the 702 Sun International CEO Sleepout challenge.
the event, however, due to additional donations made, about R25 million was raised overall. This money went to the charity 'Girls and Boys town' which works to provide accommodation for children whose families cannot cope or who don't do well in foster care.
Participating CEOs included Maria Ramos from Barclays bank Africa and Doug Smart from KFC South Africa, amongst many others
What makes this stand out is that it is an amazing example of humility, compassion and selflessness which we all can follow and learn from (whether or not we are CEOs of large corporations!)
It doesn't have to be money that we sacrifice but time, resources and efforts that we use to help others can be equally or even more valuable.
