MUSLIMS HELP TO RAISE $30,000 TO REPAIR BURNT DOWN CHURCHES

It's always lovely to hear good news spring forth from bad news and this helps to give us hope that God will always cause things to work out for our good.

Following on from an earlier post about fires in African American churches, Faatimah Knight, a young muslim lady who helped raise $900 to send flowers to the victims of the Charleston shootings, gathered together a group of her Muslim friends to raise money for the affected churches.

More details, another picture and some quotes from her after the cut...

The young lady of 23 was amazed to raise just under $30,000 for the 7 churches that were destroyed and she had this to say to The Independent:
"We have been overwhelmed by how generous people have been. We will stop it today... We will figure out how to distribute the money"

Ms Knight's campaign saw responses from a number of Islamic organisations such as Muslim Anti-Racism collaborative, The Arab American Association of New York and Ummah Wide, however, people of other faiths also reportedly donated.

Fatimaah believed that she needed to help the black Christian communities of the south because Islam teaches about the need to help the weak and vulnerable and, while these communities may not have been weak, they were rather vulnerable.

Here are some more quotes from her:
"ALL houses of worship are sanctuaries, a place where all should feel safe, a place we can seek refuge when the world is too much to bear."
"I'm a black person and I do identify with the wider black community at that level, historically the black community has been vulnerable."
"Traditionally, when we have been on our best behaviour, we have created space for other faiths, and let people worship as they see fit."
What a lovely act of kindness! First Buhari and Osinbajo and now this! We thank God for peace, love and for demonstrations of unity!
